VWT Turkey has officially handed over operations of an upgraded wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to Kraft Heinz Co. at their production site in Balıkesir, Turkey. This project has not only enabled Kraft Heinz to increase its production capacity by 30%, but it also enhanced the water quality to be compliant with discharge norms at the Balıkesir facility.
When wastewater flow began in June 2024, Kraft’s engineering and operations staff gradually integrated into daily plant operations. By the formal handover in October 2024, Kraft Heinz's wastewater operations personnel had undergone comprehensive training, ensuring that they were fully equipped to manage all operational aspects of the upgraded plant.
MBBR & Hubgrade Essential solutions to boost wastewater treatment efficiency in Turkey
VWT Turkey delivered an optimized wastewater treatment solution that increased capacity without additional construction investment and/or space requirements. The solution integrates moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) technology, which boosts the plant’s capacity and ensures high efficiency with low operational costs. Veolia’s digital solution, Hubgrade Essential, helps plant operators make faster and better-informed decisions about the facility.
The system, designed to operate with minimal personnel, adapts seamlessly to varying seasonal loads. It handles normal operations at a flow rate of 60-90 m3/h for nine months of the year, then switches to harvest season treatment capacity of 320 m³/h for three months.
Record Time & Recognition
The project was initiated in July 2023, wastewater flow began in June 2024, and full handover was achieved in October 2024. Full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards was maintained, prioritising the health and safety of all involved personnel.
